A gold trade is never just exit minus entry. The spread you pay on the way in and the commission you pay per lot both eat into the result, and on a 60-second trade they can be the difference between a win and a loss. Set your direction, size and prices below to see the gross move, the real cost, and what is actually left.
The price chart shows one line, but you never trade that line. You buy at the ask and sell at the bid, and the gap between them is the spread. On gold that gap is usually a few cents to a dollar per ounce depending on the broker and the session, but it is charged on every round turn, in full, whether the trade wins or loses. A 100 oz lot with a $0.30 spread pays $30 before the market has moved at all.
This calculator applies the spread as a direct cost against your gross result: gross = (exit − entry) × contract size × lots, then the spread is deducted at contract size × lots. For a long trade you effectively buy at the ask and sell at the bid; for a short you sell the bid and buy back the ask. Either way the arithmetic is the same — the spread is a fixed toll, not a percentage.
Commission is quoted per lot for a completed round turn. Divide it by contract size to express it as a price cost: $7 on a 100 oz lot is 7 cents per ounce, so your true break-even is the spread plus that 7 cents. That is why high-frequency, short-horizon trading is so sensitive to costs — if you are trying to capture a 60 second move of 40 cents, a 30 cent spread plus 7 cents commission leaves you almost nothing.
Return is shown against the margin locked by the position, not against the full notional value. Margin = entry × contract size × lots ÷ leverage. At 100:1 a single 100 oz lot at $4,180 needs about $4,180 of margin while controlling $418,000 of gold, so a $1,463 net gain is a large percentage of the capital actually committed. That leverage cuts both ways: the same multiplication applies to losses, and a move against you can wipe out the margin quickly.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Buy 1.00 lot (100 oz) at | $4,180.00 |
| Exit at | $4,195.00 |
| Gross move | $15.00 × 100 oz = $1,500.00 |
| Spread cost | $0.30 × 100 oz = −$30.00 |
| Commission | −$7.00 |
| Net profit | $1,463.00 |
| Margin at 100:1 | $4,180.00 → net return 35.0% |
| Break-even move | $0.37 per ounce |
This tool is an educational estimate. Actual fills, swap, slippage and broker-specific contract specifications will differ. Leveraged gold trading can lose more than your deposit — never size a position on the assumption that the calculated return is typical.
