Why gold needs its own calculators

The numbers are different from forex

XAU/USD does not behave like a currency pair. One standard lot is 100 troy ounces, so a $1 move in the gold price is $100 of profit or loss. That scale is what makes a $5 stop on a single lot a $500 risk — and why a position that felt small on paper can wipe out a week of gains in one afternoon.

合约 specifications differ between brokers, too. Some quote gold in lots of 100 ounces, others in lots of 10, others as a CFD sized per unit. A generic forex pip calculator silently assumes 100,000 units and returns an answer that is wrong by orders of magnitude. Every tool here either asks for the contract size or works directly from the ounce price, so the number you get matches the instrument you actually trade.

Take a concrete case. You have $5,000, you risk 1% per trade — $50 — and your stop sits $5 below entry. Fifty dollars divided by five dollars per ounce is 10 oz, or 0.10 of a standard lot. At 0.10 lots a $1 gold move is worth $10, so a target $12 away pays $120 gross: a 2.4 R trade, before the spread takes its cut.

Hours matter as much as size. Spreads that sit at 20–30 cents during the London–New York overlap can triple in the late Sydney session, and slippage on stops becomes far more likely when the book is thin. Pairing the volatility page with the session clock gives a realistic picture of how wide your stop needs to be at any given hour.

All twelve tools are static pages: the maths runs in JavaScript on your device, results update as you type, and no price data or account detail leaves the browser. Use them as a pre-trade checklist, not a prediction engine — they tell you what a trade costs and what it risks. Direction is still your call.

FAQ

Common questions

Do these tools need an account?

No. Every calculator is a static page that runs in your browser. You can use them with JavaScript enabled and nothing else — no email, no login, no data sent anywhere.

What contract size is assumed?

Unless a field says otherwise, 1 standard lot = 100 troy ounces, which is the convention for XAU/USD. Brokers that quote 10-ounce lots or per-unit CFDs will need the lot size adjusted accordingly.

Are the results financial advice?

No. They apply the inputs you provide to standard formulas. They do not account for broker-specific contract specs, financing charges, weekend gaps or slippage — treat them as arithmetic, not as a recommendation.

Why is my broker's pip value different?

Usually because of contract size or quote precision. A "pip" in gold is normally $0.01, and one pip on 1 lot (100 oz) is $1. Some platforms define a pip as $0.10, which multiplies every figure by ten.
